You may have just returned from your local MOT testing station after being advised that your leaf spring is broken or even heard a bang towards the rear of your vehicle after going over a particularly nasty speed bump.
It may be that your springs have lost their curve over time and your tyres are sitting perilously close to the bump stops.
Whilst a broken or tired leaf spring may seem like an expensive job at first glance, it doesn’t have to be. Rather than simply condemn these to the scrap yard, Owen Springs will assess each spring that arrives onto our premises on an individual basis and we will repair springs where we can, providing this is cost effective to the customer and the springs are deemed repairable.
Many customers opt to bring their springs to us in person. On these occasions a member of our helpful and knowledgeable customer care team will take a look at the springs, listen to your needs and advise on the best way forward. They may also be able to give an idea on cost prior to the spring being thoroughly inspected by our production department.
During this process, the fittings such as the bushes, clips and centre bolts are carefully removed from the spring to allow our staff to take the spring apart and assess each leaf. Any broken or heavily worn leaves are identified and this information is communicated back to customer care along with an accurate cost for the work.
The customer care team will then contact the customer before any work is carried out and advise them of the cost and the time it will take to complete the job. It may be that the only leaf broken on the spring can be replaced with a new one or a tired spring can be have the original curve put back into it before being re-hardened and tempered.
