David Grey MBE – Master Cutler

We are very proud to announce the appointment of our group managing director David Grey MBE as the Master Cutler.

David Grey MBE was elected Master Cutler on 1 September 2014 and was installed on 7 October 2014.

His father was in the Royal Navy and he moved round the country with his family until settling in Sheffield at the age of 15 where he has lived ever since.  After college, he joined TW Ward as a trainee accountant.  He left that business to join a sales organisation but, being an entrepreneur by nature, he set up his first company in 1981 with £1,000 borrowed from his mother and a similar amount from the bank.  Since then, he has built up his business by acquisition and organic growth to a group of companies with a global market.

He has held various appointments in business bodies across the Region and is currently a Member of the Local Enterprise Partnership board with responsibility for Inward Investment.  David has since resigned from the LEP after his 3 year term in order to concentrate on his role as Master Cutler. He was awarded an MBE in 2010 New Year’s Honours list for his services to industry and regeneration in Sheffield.
