Inter leaving was commonly used in leaf springs on passenger cars to prevent wear to the leaves as they come into contact with each other.

Some applications included a thin piece of rubber the same width and length of each leaf whilst others simply used a small rubber button towards the end of each leaf to prevent them from touching.
